Sky Ride is coming to Preston! Dust off your bike and get peddling to register for this year’s Sky Ride in Preston on Sunday 17th June.

In partnership with British Cycling and Preston City Council, Sky has chosen Preston as one of 19 host cities for Sky Rides in 2012. Join the expected 8,000 people for this special event around the city centre, beautiful parks and a section of the new Guild Wheel. Sky Ride Preston is part of an amazing calendar of sporting and cultural events in Guild year.

Preston City Council is closing roads around the city centre and Avenham & Miller Parks so that everyone can enjoy a safe, family friendly and traffic free bike ride. Everyone’s invited - on bikes and trikes, adaptive bikes, wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

Registration is free and open now, whether you’re a beginner, a regular cyclist or a family wanting a day out. Visit www.goskyride.com to register and you could win one of these fantastic prizes – an amazing cycling experience with Sir Chris Hoy at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester; a new bike worth £150; a signed Team GB cycling jersey; or a Sky+HD package.

To warm up for this event and helping you get into shape, join us throughout the summer every Sunday from 6th May for a Sky Ride Local. The website www.goskyride.com has details of where each ride will take place and with British Cycling-trained Ride Leaders on hand to offer encouragement and support, these local rides are a great way to get out and explore Preston city centre and the surrounding areas.

Stewart Kellett, British Cycling Director Recreation and Partnerships said:

“British Cycling and Sky are extremely proud to partner Preston City Council in this exciting year for cycling. Sky Ride Preston will be a fun, free cycling day out for families and friends. With entertainment en route and the British Cycling bike cafe there’s something for everyone. What a great way to celebrate Preston’s Guild year and status as European City of Sport.

“We’ll be showcasing all the great ways you can get on a bike in Preston including Sky Ride Local led rides which will take place on weekends across the summer. See you at Sky Ride Preston!”

Assistant Director, Head of Guild Community Programme for Preston City Council, Phil Walsh, added: “This is another fantastic addition to the year’s exciting Guild programme and I hope everyone will take the opportunity to get involved.

“This event will be open to everyone and with the event falling on Father’s Day, we hope that families will come out in their thousands to make the most of this exciting event and hopefully, some good weather.”

Preston businesses MWR Solicitors and Shout Preston have also put forward their support, enabling this event to be even bigger and reach all the communities in Preston.
